Spears willing to waive 2008 Super 14 rights Published Saturday, 1-Apr-2006
South Africa's Cape Times reports that the the Southern Spears are
willing to waive their right to guaranteed participation in the 2008 Super 14
as a compromise with SA Rugby. Their Stephen Nell spoke to Spears chief executive
Tony McKeever and he told them ,"We would consider waivering the entrenchment
for 2008 and say we are entrenched for one year (2007)." "After
next year's Super 14, there can be promotion-relegation matches (between the fifth-placed
side after the 2007 Super 14 and the relegated franchise of this year), which
I feel should be over three legs - home, away and on neutral territory. "We
have confidence in our ability. It is unlikely that we will finish as the fifth-placed
South African side next year." SARugby has sent a fact finding mission
this weekend to investigate the Spears readiness for 2007.
